About Me
Iwona Kotowska-Livaja
NZ Registered Psychologist
MA SocClinPsych, PGDip PsychPrac
Member of NZPsS, ICJFP, GIFR, EMDRAA)
My goal in life has always been to pursue a career where I could make a positive difference in people's lives.
This passion led me to study Social, Clinical and Forensic Psychology and eventually a full time job in a forensic mental health and disability field.
I am a professional Psychologist, registered under the Health Practitioners Competence
Assurance Act (2003) and a member of the New Zealand Psychological Society; the Institute of Criminal Justice and Forensic Psychology; and the Global Institute of Forensic Research. In 2004, prior to coming to NZ, I completed my Masters Degree in Social and Clinical Psychology at SWPS University of Social Sciences and Humanities (the first private university in Poland). I also completed a Post Graduate Diploma in Psychological Practice at Massey University in 2009.
I am able to provide various psychological services to people with intellectual disabilities, general medical
and/or coexisting mental health conditions, victims of trauma and abuse. I am fluent in Polish and English, and I can speak Croatian. I also have understanding of specific issues affecting multi-cultural immigrants to a new country.
I work primarily with youth and adults and use a bio-psycho-social framework as my clinical approach for addressing the needs of my clients. In my work I use the following types of therapy: Cognitive-Behavioural, Acceptance and Commitment, Mindfulness and Acceptance-Based Interventions (MABIs), such as Dialectical Behaviour Therapy (DBT) to treat problems with Emotional Regulation (ER). I am also trained in EMDR (member of EMDRAA).
As a NZ Registered Psychologist in the Auckland area, I am committed to the well-being of all my clients and go above and beyond to cater to their needs.
I truly care for all of my clients, and work diligently to help find them the answers they seek. Since 2009, I have worked with a variety of clients dealing with circumstances that are unique to their lives.
